About the Origins of Camp Roanoke
Camp Roanoke originally opened in 1925 as a camp for boys only. Through the years, thousands of kids from all over the area spent their summers enjoying the camp life. In the late 1980s Camp Roanoke closed. During this time period, the property on which the camp sits was purchased by Roanoke County as part of the watershed needed to construct the nearby Spring Hollow Reservoir. 


Roanoke County, seeing the potential and sensing the need, began fundraising and renovation efforts to bring the camp back to life. The camp sits on 110 acres of mountain land surrounded by more than 600 acres of reservoir property, with brilliant views of Sunset Peak and the surrounding mountains. Facilities at the camp include accommodations for 64-80 kids, a renovated dining hall, a large pavilion that can accommodate 200+ people , challenge course, a 44-foot tall climbing tower, a multi-sport play court for basketball, and plenty of green grass and open space. 



Meet The Staff At Camp Roanoke

The staff at Camp Roanoke are highly trained individuals that make up a great team of leaders and guides for your Camp experience. Our full-time staff members are graduates of universities and colleges with accredited outdoor recreation programs. Additionally, staff members are certified Wilderness First Responders, and have extensive experience in working with children and youth in outdoor settings. Camp counselors have completed an intensive training program which includes First Aid/CPR/AED training, defensive driving, conflict management, group dynamics, supervision roles, etc. Staff members also administer medications, monitor special diets, and apply first aid during the camp session. All camp staff are carefully screened, interviewed and approved through background checks prior to employment.

Camp Roanoke is the perfect site to host programs for all ages. The dining hall, meeting rooms, and team building opportunities will be available for businesses, organizations, and families to conduct retreats, reunions, conferences, and meetings.
