Including poses appropriate for beginners, an introduction to using yoga blocks and straps, utilizing the breath, and relaxation to help settle the mind and emotions. Learn how to move through poses with short flows and to hold poses to build strength while using the breath to go deeper into the form.   3. T'ai Chi-24 Form (Ages 18+)

    An internal martial art that emphasizes breathing and gentle continuous movements to help reduce stress and build strength. Also known for improving balance and joint health by slow, mindful, low-impact movements. Classes will focus on standing meditation, gentle flowing movements (Qigong), balance work, and learning the 24 Form.   9. Abstract Painting (Ages 18+)

    Join this class to have some fun and to learn techniques not normally used in naturalistic painting. You will learn you can distort, exaggerate, omit, multiply, glaze, scrape, and texture in different ways….in abstracts your work does not look like a photo or a scene. You might choose to flatten the entire pictorial space and concentrate on color in a new way, or perhaps distort shapes and use new textures in your composition. For experienced painters this is a chance to challenge yourself and think outside of your comfort zone. Beginning adult artists can see the information you will gain and apply it to your more naturalist paintings. Six week course. Instructor: Michael Farrar.

  11. T'ai Chi-10 Form (Ages 18+)

    Originally developed as a Martial Art for self defense, T'ai Chi is a non-competitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and dynamic stretching. It is sometimes described as 'Meditation in Motion' because it promotes serenity through gentle movements; connecting the mind, body and spirit through a sequence of blissful postures. The class consists of slow intentional movements, incorporating breathing and mindful imagery. Its goals are to relax, strengthen, connect the physical body and mind, enhance the natural flow of Chi (life force), and improve one's health. The Mayo Clinic has reported that the practice of T'ai Chi may reduce anxiety and depression, improve balance, flexibility and muscle strength as well as improve sleep quality. Six week program.

  13. Pilates & Barre (Ages 18+)

    This low impact, effective program firms, lengthens, and shapes muscles to their optimal form! We start with warm-up exercises and stretches based in Pilates, then we use light hand weights for toning the upper body, followed by highly effective deep tissue concentrated exercises to work the thighs and seat.   16. Resolution Ride (Ages 18+)

    Pedal your way into fall at the Brambleton Center! Bring your fitness goals, hop on a bike and make a move towards better health. This specially designed class will provide benchmarks and target heart rate, RPM and energy output goals for each ride. Work alongside an energetic instructor and fellow cyclists in a fun cardio class that pairs your bike with a fitness system to track your statistics with each pedal you push. You can even have statistics sent to your phone, so that you can track your progress from the first class to the last class. Come in with fitness goals and leave with results! You never have to arrive early – bikes are selected and guaranteed for the entirety of the class. 6 week course. Instructor: Beth Hoel.

    Acrylic painting offers numerous techniques for students to explore. One value in working in acrylic is the fast-drying paint.   18. Pottery (Ages 18+)

    The Brambleton Center offers a well equipped studio to create original works of clay in both wheel and freeform. Equipment includes 13 electric wheels, a slab roller, and an assortment of tools and accessories for shaping and sculpting the clay. A variety of glazes are mixed in the studio offering about 23 colors. Class fee also includes utilizing the studio on your own during select times when classes aren't in session and the firing of pieces made during the 10 week term. Clay must be purchased through Brambleton Center at $25/25 pounds. Saturday will be an open workshop opportunity for those currently registered in a Pottery class. All pottery classes are ten week programs.

  1. Puppy Kindergarten (Ages 18+)

    The single most important (and fun) thing you can do for your puppy? Puppy Kindergarten!! For puppies between 10-24 weeks old, socialization with other puppies and people is crucial in order to help them become social, well-balanced dogs. While making lots of friends during off-leash playtime, your puppy will gain confidence by participating in activities and learning basic commands. Discussions for puppy parents include puppy development, house-training, destructive chewing, and play-biting. Six week course taught by High Hopes Dog Training.

  2. Beginner Obedience & Good Manners (Ages 18+)

    Want a dog who listens better? In this basic training course, dog parents will learn how to best communicate with their dogs in order to teach them good manners. Positive reinforcement training methods are used to teach the following behaviors: touch, look, sit, down, stand, come, settle, wait, take it, loose-leash walking, plus more. Other topics include parent separation, agility exercises, impulse control, and canine communication. Dogs must complete either Puppy Kindergarten or be at least 6 months old.   3. Swing Roanoke Dance Lessons (Ages 18+)

    Want a new way to have fun and exercise? Swing Roanoke will be teaching classes to keep your feet moving! Each seven week series of classes will cover various swing dances like East Coast Swing, 20's or 30's Charleston, Lindy Hop, and others. No partner is required and those with two left feet are welcome! No matter how many times you have come before-classes will have fresh material to learn in each series!
