  1. Adult Ballet (Ages 16+)

    This is a beginning level ballet class comprised of a 30 minute barre featuring exercises to warm-up feet, legs, and arms. This is followed by 30 minutes of center work and traveling combinations to work on balance, coordination, and flexibility. Participants may wear tights, leggings, sweatpants, and either a leotard or sports top. Ballet slippers are recommended. Instructor Beth Brunelle.

  2. Swing Roanoke Dance Lessons (Ages 18+)

    Want a new way to have fun and exercise? Swing Roanoke will be teaching classes to keep your feet moving! Each seven week series of classes will cover various swing dances like East Coast Swing, 20's or 30's Charleston, Lindy Hop, and others. No partner is required and those with two left feet are welcome! No matter how many times you have come before-classes will have fresh material to learn in each series! Classes include 45 minutes of instruction followed by practice time. Instruction by Swing Roanoke. June-July will be Swing 201. July-September will be Charleston East Coast Variations.

  3. Taekwondo Mini-Series (Ages 5+)

    Taekwondo classes at Green Ridge are designed to teach martial arts and fitness in a structured but fun environment. We help kids develop a focused mind, a coordinated body, a courteous nature, and a positive attitude. Kids, teens, and adults alike will improve fitness and coordination while learning self-defense skills that help build confidence and focus. Students can sign up individually or have the whole family try together. This class is an introduction to the basics of taekwondo.

  4. Shorin Ryu Karate (Ages 18+)

    Shorin Ryu is one of the major modern Okinawan martial arts and is one of the oldest styles of karate, Okinawa is known as the birthplace of Karate. This traditional martial arts style is heavily focused on areas such as kicks, punches, katas, and weapons. Students will learn the benefits of increased balance, flexibility, fitness level, and focus as well as build confidence. Students will also learn self defense principles that are hidden within the art and unlocked to show the fighting concepts that have been handed down for generations. Michelle Behrns is not only a Shorin-Ryu instructor but also teaches kickboxing, fitness instructor and teaches Tru Self Defense. A Gi is not required but encouraged for easier movement. Twelve week class.

  5. Big Waves (Ages 4-5)

    Celebrate your child's independence in the water. This is the first class that we offer that have children in the water without a caregiver. Your child may be a beginner or already comfortable in the water. Regardless, they will learn to float, kick and become proficient with arm strokes. Rolling over and treading water will be introduced. Submerging is a big part of this class since swimming requires being able to put your face in the water! If they are more advanced they will be expected to swim more independently and with less support from the instructor.

  6. Level 1 Swimming Lessons (Ages 6-12)

    Let's have fun learning to swim! This is a class for the older beginning swimmer to become comfortable and confident in the water. They will gain basic aquatic skills including; beginning swimming strokes, breath control, floating, and kicking - all of which will help to keep them safe. Games and activities will help teach them to enjoy and become adjusted to the water. In addition, they will participate in a safety lesson each lesson that will encourage them to be safe around all aquatic environments. The goal is a positive attitude towards swimming and water safety.

  7. Tiny Bubbles (Ages 18-36 months)

    Join your child as they discover the world of water. With your help, toddlers will experiment with arm and leg action, floating and going under water. Lots of repetition will help them become very comfortable and confident in the water. This is a fun and engaging class which will keep your child wanting to come back even as they are learning about safety and swimming skills. Parental participation is required.

  8. Baby Drops (Ages 6-18 months)

    No need to wait! Start the process of introducing your baby to the water sooner rather than later. This parent and child class will start building your baby's confidence and swimming readiness. What a fun opportunity for you and your child to explore the water and become adjusted together. Parents will learn basic water skills to keep their children safe and help them to love the water. Safety information and teaching techniques will be provided to parents. Parental participation is required.

  9. Level 2 Swimming Lessons (Ages 6-12)

    Our swimmers continue to build on the basic skills learned in Level 1 in the Level 2 class. The student will become more confident and be able to swim short distances by themselves. Students in this class should be very comfortable going under the water. Emphasis in this class is on learning to float without support, alternating arms and leg actions on front and back along with rotary breathing. Safety lessons are ever present in order to ensure our participant's safety around all water environments. Fun is not forgotten either!

  10. Little Splashes (Ages 3-4)

    Come enjoy swimming with your child as they acquire basic aquatic skills that will encourage their love of the water. This class is the foundation of swimming skills for years to come. While parental participation is required in this class, there will be some time of independent swimming. This time will help your child separate from you and help to discover if they are ready to go to the next level without you. Parents will still be provided with water safety information to keep your entire family safe around aquatic environments.

  11. Level 3 and Level 4 Swimming Lessons (Ages 6-12)

    Now you're really a swimmer! Swimmers in this class are very confident and comfortable in the water. All strokes are introduced and by the time they have completed both levels, they will be able to swim at least 25 yards of all six strokes. When a participant passes Level 3 they will have achieved basic water competency skills according to the new American Red Cross standards. Safety lessons become more in depth and cover more topics.

  12. Loom Knitting Skill Building (Ages 18+)

    After completing your project in Introduction to Loom Knitting, this class is a comprehensive review of loom knitting and covers four cast-ons, four bind-offs as well as many other "must knows", abbreviations and terms about loom knitting. We will spend time practicing what we learn so you can truly make many beginner projects the FIRST time on your own! Everything is provided that is needed to practice all of the skills. Instructor Tonya Hodges is excited to share her knowledge with you! She has learned by training herself and is willing to share input not found in books to help with barriers that may arise. She has been loom knitting since 2014 and has started her own business, Learn to Loom Knit, as well.

  13. How To Use a 34mm Camera for Beginners (Ages 13+)

  14. Puppy Kindergarten (Ages 18+)

    The single most important (and fun) thing you can do for your puppy? Puppy Kindergarten!! For puppies between 10-24 weeks old, socialization with other puppies and people is crucial in order to help them become social, well-balanced dogs. While making lots of friends during off-leash playtime, your puppy will gain confidence by participating in activities and learning basic commands. Discussions for puppy parents include puppy development, house-training, destructive chewing, and play-biting. Six week course taught by High Hopes Dog Training.

  15. Beginner Obedience & Good Manners (Ages 18+)

    Want a dog who listens better? In this basic training course, dog parents will learn how to best communicate with their dogs in order to teach them good manners. Positive reinforcement training methods are used to teach the following behaviors: touch, look, sit, down, stand, come, settle, wait, take it, loose-leash walking, plus more. Other topics include parent separation, agility exercises, impulse control, and canine communication. Dogs must complete either Puppy Kindergarten or be at least 6 months old. Six week course taught by High Hopes Dog Training.

  16. Nature Photography: Intermediate Level (Ages 13+)

    Exercise those vocal chords! Open to those with some vocal experience, this class is designed for individuals young and young at heart who want to learn how to put their best voice forward. Whether you are a working professional who is looking for ways to find the vocal endurance to talk with clients, students, and patients all day, or are looking to improve your singing voice from the car, pew, or choir loft, this is the class for you! Basic healthy voice use and maintenance principles for both the speaking and singing voice will be covered. Lauren Lawson is a classically trained soprano who practices as a speech-language pathologist in the Roanoke Valley.
