Roanoke County offers some of the top activities for kids in Virginia’s Blue Ridge. If you’re looking for things to do with the family, check out these fantastic opportunities.

1) Treetop Quest at Explore Park

Experience an aerial adventure course built with family fun in mind. Treetop Quest offers ziplines and progressively challenging obstacles for ages 4 through adult. Younger adventurers can enjoy a kids challenge course and 1,000 square foot net trampoline. Participants ages 7 and older can choose from four levels of treetop fun. Open April through November each year, it’s located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway at milepost 115.

2) Splash Valley Water Park

Splash into the fun of two 34-foot high water slides, a current river and children’s sprayground. Splash Valley is a small water park which provides a great place to cool off during the summer months. Open from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day, look for weekly discounts and special events. Great for birthday parties or group visits. A concessions area within the park offers amusement park favorites like chicken tenders and pizza.

3) Summer Camps

Roanoke County Parks, Recreation and Tourism is the area’s largest provider of summer camps for youth ages 3 to 17. Choose from over 200 weeks of fun including full-day, half-day and overnight programs. Camp Roanoke offers a traditional co-ed residential experience for kids looking to get away during the summer. The facility has been enriching youth since 1925 and is accredited by the American Camp Association.

4) Green Ridge Recreation Center

This public recreation facility offers healthy fun for everyone! Green Ridge is a 76,000 square foot destination combining wellness with family recreation opportunities. The indoor pool is open year round, including water slides and a current river. It’s also one of the favorite local places to work out, with a variety of group exercise equipment and classes.

5) Special Events

Throughout the year Roanoke County hosts several signature events designed for children and their families.In April, the Blue Ridge Kite Festival draws thousands to one of the best kite flying areas on the east coast. In July, Touch-a-Truck offers kids the chance to interact with 200 cool vehicles in one of the largest events of its kind in the nation. In December, Illuminights at Explore Park is an immersive walking holiday tour featuring over 500,000 lights as well as the signs and sounds of the season.
