Scare Quest

On select nights in October, the new Treetop Quest challenge course at Explore Park will be transformed into a thrilling nighttime adventure. The journey begins with an interactive ghost story and puzzle. Next, guests will strap on climbing gear and a headlamp to experience Treetop Quest’s aerial obstacles and zip-lines at night. The journey ends with time a giant black-light spider web (net trampoline), suspended from the trees.

Survive the Tale... Make Your Escape

Scare Quest will take place on October 17, 18, 20 and 24-26 at Explore Park, located at milepost 115 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Advance registration is strongly suggested due to limited space. Choose from three different narratives including:

  • Ghostly Heights (No Scare Challenge for ages 4-6): A friendly ghost needs your help getting home! He's afraid of heights and asks you to guide him safely to his family waiting in the trees This is a 55-minute experience. $15 per child. An adult should accompany your child throughout the story and ropes course October 17, 18 & 26 only. Register Online Here 
  • Flight of the Bat (Low Scare Challenge for ages 7+): Danger lurks in the haunted woods at Explore Park, where hikers have been reported missing. Strap on your head lamp and search the trees for the mythic vampire bat and fly through the forest to make your escape.This is a 1.5 hour experience. $22 per person.   • SOLD OUT - Into the Spider's Lair (Higher Scare Challenge for Ages 7+): For nearly 200 years, treasure hunters have searched for the legendary Beale Treasure. Your team of adventurers must find the location of the lost gold, and navigate a series of booby traps guarded by a nest of giant spiders.! This is a 1.5 hour experience. $22 per person. Individual tickets are required for both kids and adults. Register Online Here

Know Before You Go

Please keep these things in mind prior to your visit:

  • No Costumes - Due to the nature of the challenge course, please do not wear Halloween costumes. These could get caught in the equipment and pose a safety risk.
  • Arrive Early - Be there at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time with your entire party to guarantee admission.
  • Weight Limit - Our course has a maximum limit of 250 pounds. All participants will undergo a confidential weigh-in.
  • Secure Shoes - Tightly fitting closed-toe sneakers or hiking shoes are required (No slip-ons, sandals or boat shoes).

How to Register

To register online, you will have to create an account with Roanoke County Parks, Recreation and Tourism. Each individual in your family must be registered individually by adding separately to your cart before checkout. You may also register by phone at (540) 387-6078 ext. 0. Sign up early to guarantee your space.

Group Booking (10 or more)

Start times for this event run every 20 minutes, with a maximum capacity of 15 in each session. Reserve a time-slot in advance for Flight of the Bat or Spider's Lair and save $2 off each ticket (groups of 10 or more). Available by phone only at (540) 777-6327.
