Motor Equipment Operator I or II

Motor Equipment Operator I General Statement of Duties:

Performs routine work in operating motorized equipment and manual skilled and semi-skilled labor such as laying out and marking fields for various sports, carpentry, painting and masonry repairs. Performs other duties as assigned.

Motor Equipment Operator II General Statement of Duties:

Performs responsible work in the safe operation of several types of heavy or special purpose motorized equipment. Services and makes minor repairs to the equipment and performs various manual tasks when not operating equipment. Must have a higher level of skill than MEO I in order to operate more complicated pieces of heavy motor equipment.

Recreation Jobs

Join our Athletics team and help bring youth sports to life across Roanoke County! Our Athletics Division partners with local recreation clubs to offer youth sports, athletic field rentals, and tournaments throughout the year. Team members help create safe, positive experiences for players, families, and spectators. Positions include Gym Monitors, Scorekeepers, and Site Supervisors.

Athletics Gym Monitor ($17/hour)

The Gym Monitor for recreation basketball, opens, supervises and closes athletic facilities for practices, games, and tournaments and assists with providing a safe and healthy atmosphere for players, spectators, parents, officials and volunteers that are present by ensuring Departmental policies and procedures are followed. Provides facility set-up and break-down in accordance with programming and events and performs light cleaning duties. Reports to the Athletics Recreation Supervisor. Does related work as required.

Shift Hours and/or Days Worked:  Monday-Thursday, Saturday and Sunday- evenings and weekends.
Hours required for this position:  12-18 hours

Based at Green Ridge Recreation Center and Splash Valley Water Park, our team helps ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for every guest while delivering outstanding customer service. Positions include Lifeguards, Head Lifeguards, Pool Managers, Swim Instructors, Concessions, and Front Gate Staff.

Lifeguard ($14/hour)

Performs responsible work observing and controlling the proper use of aquatic facilities. Follows all protocols established by Ellis & Associates. Ensures a safe aquatic facility while providing a high level of customer service. Ensures that all standards and policies are followed. Ensures State and local health department regulations are met. Perform related work, as required.

Help shape positive experiences for kids and families! Youth Services offers after-school care, camps, and enrichment programs throughout the year, designed to support learning, creativity, and fun. Positions include After School Activity Aides, Activity Leaders, and Site Supervisors.

After School for Kids Activity Leader ($15/hour)

Performs responsible recreational and clerical work in accordance with the program standards for children and/or youth at an assigned location. Responsible for organizing, planning and engaging in organized recreational activities with children ages five (5) through twelve (12) and/or youth ages eleven (11) through thirteen (13). Organizes and schedules activities to include appropriate games, music, arts and crafts. Collects fees. Performs other duties as assigned.

Shift Hours and/or Days Worked:  Monday-Friday, 1:45-6:00pm

The facility features an indoor pool, fitness center, gymnasium, indoor track, and multipurpose rooms available for rentals. Opportunities include Customer Service, Facility Attendants, Group Exercise Instructors, Personal Trainers, Rental Staff, Custodians, and more.

Custodian ($15.39/hour)

Performs repetitive manual work involving the efficient cleaning of County buildings and the performance of project work. Applies specific procedures to recurring situations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Instructor ($20/hour)

Serves as an instructor on a seasonal/occasional, contractual or hourly basis. Maintains a safe and controlled atmosphere to ensure a high quality program that meets the standards of the department. Leads a series of recreation programs in diverse areas with minimal supervision. Duties are performed under the direct supervision of the Recreation staff. Performs other duties as assigned.

*Hours Required for this position:  2-4 per week

Outdoor Services 600x250

If you love the outdoors, this is the place to be! Outdoor Services provides environmental education, outdoor adventure programs, seasonal camps, and recreation experiences at Explore Park, Camp Roanoke, and County parks. Staff help residents and visitors connect with nature through activities like hiking, biking, outdoor skills, and adventure programs. 

The division also operates Treetop Quest, Explore Park’s aerial adventure and zipline course from April to October. Positions include Outdoor Education Instructors, Camp Counselors, Aerial Adventure Guides, and Park Attendants.

Park Attendant- Explore Park ($15/hour)

This position helps facilitate positive experiences for guests at Explore Park through customer service oriented tasks including guest services, vendor relations, administrative support, and light maintenance/housekeeping tasks in both indoor and outdoor settings in support of park operations. Does related work as required. 

Shift Hours and/or Days Worked:  Daily, including some weekends and holidays
Hours Required for this position:  5-20 hours/week
