Winter Weather Cancellation Policy
During a winter weather event, Roanoke County Parks, Recreation and Tourism will announce closures or delays grouped into the following categories:

1) PROGRAMS* – Includes general public recreation classes, workshops, clinics, and member classes

2) FACILITIES – Refers to the hours the buildings will be open.

3) TEAM SPORTS – Games and practices scheduled by our athletics division.  Monday through Friday, closures for this category are based on Roanoke County Public Schools. On weekends, closures will be listed at (540) 387-6455, extension 6 for youth sports, and 7 for adult sports.

 * PLEASE NOTE: Snow day camps may operate at Brambleton and Green Ridge when Roanoke County schools are out, even if general programs are cancelled. These programs are dependent on weather conditions. Decisions about large County special events will be made on a case-by-case basis.


WHEN - Times Closure Decisions Will Be Made
• Weather conditions are typically reviewed at 5:00am and 3:00pm and posted accordingly through the channels listed below.
• If there is NO MESSAGE posted by the means listed below, all programs and facilities are operating as scheduled.
• Decisions about large County events will be made on a case-by-case basis.

Program cancellation and facility closures will be announced via the following methods of communication:
• News Flash – Subscribers to Roanoke County’s Parks, Recreation and Tourism News Flash will be notified by email or text message about program cancellations and facility closures. Subscription to this service is available here: http://roanokecountyparks.com/list.aspx

• Phone – Our automated phone line will be updated (540) 387-6455. Dial 4 for general programs, 6 for youth athletics, and 7 for adult athletics
• www.RoanokeCountyParks.com – A Weather Alert message will be displayed on this page, with a link to additional information about the closure or schedule modification.
• www.GreenRidgeRecreationCenter.com – A Weather Alert message will be displayed on this page, with a link to additional information about the closure or schedule modification.
• Facebook – Closures and cancellations will be posted to the RoanokeCountyParks and GreenRidge pages
When programs return to regular schedule and facilities re-open, announcements will be made via the same medium.

Participants enrolled in cancelled courses will be notified about make-up dates as soon as possible after a weather event ends.
