Frequently Asked Questions

  • What precautions are being taken for COVID-19? Enhanced sanitation procedures will be required for both staff and participants at all times. Social distancing will be practiced whenever possible. Staff will be wearing face masks and gloves. Hand washing/sanitizing stations will be available in most programming spaces. Camp facilities will be deep cleaned daily.
  • Are field trips still included? A limited number of field trips will be offered, and may include outdoor locations such as park playgrounds and attractions where social distancing may be practiced such as Treetop Quest at Explore Park. If state regulations permit the opening of Splash Valley Water Park this season, visits to our outdoor aquatics facility will be part of the curriculum. Enrichment programs will be supplemented by visits from outside instructors or activity leaders whenever possible.
  • Why did you decide to eliminate the previously planned program lineup? Roanoke County has been closely monitoring state mandated phasing updates, and made the determination that a full slate of summer programs cannot be guaranteed in 2020. Additional limitations have been placed on our camp programs such as the inability to use public school sites, as well as a large reduction in part time staffing. To better serve the public, our resources have been shifted this season to programs that help serve the needs of working parents during these difficult times.
